national day greeting cards 2016
it is not at all a common practice to send out greeting cards for national day in singapore. however, with a strong desire to remind our fellow singaporeans that celebrating our shared national identity does not end after SG50, our studio felt compelled to create and send out national day cards.
one of the interesting things about being singaporean or living in singapore is how everything is simply ‘rojak’. looking beyond the c-m-i-o rhetoric, our food, language, way of life and all the little things in between are a mix of culture, heritage and influences. for many of us, even our blood and ancestry are mixed! however, it is the very diversity and complexity that makes us interesting; it makes us singaporean and certainly worth celebrating.
the greeting card we sent out attempts to represent this eclecticism through the colourful illustration of various things visually familiar to singapore residents rubber-stamped on pastel coloured vanguard sheet papers. the paper, reminiscent of our childhood days, is a subtle reminder that, sometimes, it is not such a bad thing to have a little naïveté in our patriotism to the place we call home. our “happy national day” greeting is also a mish-mash of the four official languages in singapore.
